A Survivor’s Story

Lee Feng, 32

In 2005, Lee Feng found a lump during her breast self examination check and the results of the mammogram confirmed her fears. At the age of 30, she was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer.

Being young and having just started a family, she saw a bright future ahead. So when the news came, it was a huge blow. Having a son who was not even 2 years old was her biggest concern.

“At that point in time, my greatest worry was for my son. What would become of him if something happened to me?”

However, the love and support from her family and her religious faith in Christianity pulled her through this ordeal. For the sake of her son, she persevered and did not ever give up hope. She kept a positive mindset and looked forward to the future. Now looking back, she commented that this was a journey that she would never forget.

Now, She feels she has become stronger and her perception of many things have changed.

“This journey is a blessing in disguise. It showed me the importance of life and I learnt to value people more and appreciate the things I have.”

After joining BCF, she took on dragon-boating. Other than being a part time physiotherapist, she also does telephone counselling for younger women who are diagnosed with breast cancer. Her goal is to reach out to the younger generation of women out there who needs her help. Contracting the cancer at a young age made Lee Feng able to relate to these women better as she has had first-hand experience.

Presently, she has many plans for the future. She intends to have another child soon. Other than wanting to have a normal life, she also wishes to be the voice of the women out there that needs support and guidance.
