
Associate Professor Mikael Hartman
Assoc Prof Mikael Hartman is a breast cancer specialist and the head of a research group of more than 10 members at the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health. Originally from Stockholm, Sweden, he received his medical training at Karolinska Institute, where he was board certified in General Surgery in 2005. Dr Hartman’s doctoral studies in epidemiology led to his specialization in breast cancer etiology and prognostication, as well as inheritance of cancer prognosis. He leads the development of the Singapore Breast Cancer Cohort, the Singapore-Malaysia Breast Cancer Working Group, and the Breast Cancer Prevention Programme. In 2014, he rode a motorcycle from Singapore to Sweden to create awareness for breast cancer and research, which resulted in the initiation of the Asian Breast Cancer Research Fund to support breast cancer-related research across Asia.
